The Elastomeric Modifiers business unit manages
two product lines : Chemigum®
elastomers and Sunigum® elastomers.
Since the 1970's, innovative grades of these
elastomers have been regularly developed in the
R&D centers in
Europe and the US to cater to the evolving needs
of our customers. Investment
in production facilities have been made
to introduce new processes, maintain
healthy practices of industrial
safety and hygiene, modernize packaging for
easy handling, disposal and recycling, and, of
course, to add capacity to meet the growing worldwide
demand.
This growing demand plays a role in pioneering
our "Materials" as
it does to aim our philosophy of working with
our customers on new "Concepts". The overall goal is to
satisfy the needs of our customers efficiently
and economically. We participate with our customers
to convert concepts into business
by providing guideline formulations and other
technical services, joint promotions
and assistance in identifying new markets for
their products.

CHEMIGUM® ELASTOMERS
Chemigum NBR elastomers, copolymers of acrylonitrile and butadiene, are
known for their good mechanical properties and resistance to fuels, fats
and oils. In blends with PVC, Chemigum elastomers enhance physical properties
and chemical resistance. In addition, they help minimize loss of liquid
plasticizers due to extraction, volatility or migration, thus maintaining
flexibility under harsh conditions.
Chemigum elastomers are also widely used in friction material compositions
in which they contribute significant advantages in both processing and
performance.
Different Chemigum grades have been developed in powder form to meet
specific processing or end-use requirements.

SUNIGUM® ELASTOMERS
Sunigum elastomer is a precrosslinked, acrylate terpolymer with functional
carboxylic groups. Is is intrinsically resistant to degradation by heat
and UV radiation, and to many chemicals including oils & fuels. Its
novel composition and structure make it compatible with a wide range
of polar resins: PVC, CPE, COPE, TPU, ASA/ABS/SAN and other polymers
with some polarity such as ethylene copolymers (EVA and EMA provided
the co-monomer content is at least 20%). Although Sunigum is not directly
compatible with non polar resins, it can be blended with polyolefins
through reactive compatibilization techniques, for example using glycidyl
containing ethylene copolymers as compatibilizers.
Sunigum's basic properties and flexibilizing potential allow users to
tailor-make softer grades of general-purpose and engineering grade thermoplastic
elastomers where aesthetics, color-retention and weatherability are of
prime importance.
